York House is a forty-one-unit development positioned in the heart of Parnell, Auckland. Across all levels of the building, a variety of residential units in varying sizes maximise natural light and ensure views of the surrounding city and Waitemata Harbour.

The exterior building mass is created by the selection of four nodal points along the site’s boundary to establish a sculptural envelope that gently scallops inwards to the centre of the site.

A material palette that draws from the sites surrounding volcanic environment and historical context to inform the dark-hued charcoal ribbed concrete building façade. This prominent textured external skin is inverse to the soft curves of the building’s envelope and evokes the feeling of an ancient structure. The vertical ribs formed within the exterior skin create an ever-morphing surface texture of shifting colour and shadow, animating the dark sculptural surfaces throughout the day.
